Learn Chinese Lesson 12 - 'Silk' 糸

The Chinese character for a fine strand of silk is written as . In actual meaning, it's a length unit, which is equal to the width of five parallel threads of silk. There's alot of characters that starts with . Please note that most of the meanings are somewhat related to silk as well. If written on the left, it will be 纟. For example:-

糸- Mì -  length unit, which is equal to the width of five parallel threads of silk
丝 - Sī - silk
纸 - Zhǐ - paper
绑 - Bǎng - tie
绣 - Xiù - embroider
绵 - Mián - soft
线 - Xiàn -  thread
缝 - Fèng - sew
织 - Zhī - knit
绕 - Rào - coil
编 - Biān - weave
继 - Jì - continue
